Families across the country are in back-to-school mode, and the team at Carlisle & Co. is no different! As we slowly make the shift from our more relaxed summer hours to normal productivity, we’re thinking about our work-from-home essentials — you know, those items that help you stay organized but also look pretty on your desk. This month, we’re sharing a few of the things that make our work days work for us, from our spaces and our style to the systems that keep everything moving.
What We Keep on Our Desks at Home
A Planner and A Paper To-Do List
There’s something special about a paper to-do list. While our team has adopted monday.com for tracking client projects and hours, it’s still nice to end each day by jotting down tomorrow’s to-do list in our favorite planner. That way, we can close out the workday knowing what’s ahead and start the next morning with a clear plan instead of immediately feeling overwhelmed by emails and notifications.
Etsy Striped Laptop Case
If you’re going to carry your laptop everywhere, it might as well be cute. We love this striped laptop case from Etsy for keeping your computer protected while making it a little easier to spot at the coffee shop…or among everything else in your work bag. The green stripe is our current favorite; it’s practical, but still fun enough to feel like an accessory.
Papier Desk Supplies
You’re never too old for back-to-school supplies! The Carlisle & Co. team always finds pretty goodies at Papier. From their personalized notebooks (we love this one too) to their pens and pencil cases, we can’t get enough. Somehow, a fresh notebook and a really good pen make tackling that post-summer to-do list feel a little more fun.
Trudon Candle
There’s truly nothing like a Trudon candle. Is it a WFH luxury? Absolutely. Is it pricey? Also yes. But Trudon has been making candles since 1643 (yes, really!) and is considered the world’s oldest active candlemaker, so they know what they’re doing. Our favorite scent is Gabriel, with warm notes of birch wood, cashmere, and musk that somehow make sitting down at your desk feel a little more luxurious. If you’re going to splurge on a candle, make it this one.
What We Wear on Repeat
Matching Sets from Buru
Unless you’re new around here, you know we fall hard for a matching set from Buru. They make getting dressed for a work-from-home day incredibly easy while still leaving you feeling put-together for those client Zoom meetings. Plus, every piece can be mixed and matched with what’s already in your closet, so you’ll get plenty of wear out of them long after matching-set day. Here are just a few of our current favorites:
- This blue gingham knit crew neck blouse and skort feels like elevated loungewear.
- We love the green gingham set too (and can confirm it looks very cute paired with the blue gingham).
- The perfect olive cropped sleeveless mod top and wide leg knit trouser will carry you into fall.
- We’re obsessed with the Bermuda set in the black-and-white botanicals print.
Tuckernuck Parker Classic Tee
The best work-from-home pieces are the ones you can throw on without thinking twice, and the Tuckernuck Parker Classic Tee checks all the boxes. Pair it with shorts or jeans, add some fun jewelry, and you’re ready for everything from school drop-off to a team meeting. Plus, with so many color ways to choose from, it’s a staple that you can buy more than once.
All Things Addison Bay
Whether you’re taking a morning walk, planning to workout eventually, or just grinding out the day at your desk, you can’t go wrong with Addison Bay. From their Active Mesh Walnut Tops and Everyday Skorts to their cute sets, everything strikes that perfect balance between activewear and actually-looking-put-together wear. Basically, it’s made for the days when you’re not entirely sure if a workout is going to happen, but you’d like to dress like it might.
What Makes Our Work Days Easier
Stars + Honey Collagen Protein Bar
When the afternoon slump hits, having something healthy (and delicious!) within reach makes all the difference. We love keeping Stars + Honey Collagen Protein Bars on hand for a quick snack between meetings, school pickup, or whatever else the afternoon has in store. They’re an easy way to add a little protein and keep us going until dinner. Plus, they actually taste like a treat. Our current favorites? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Mint Cookies & Cream.
Personalized Acrylic Box
It feels like there’s always something that needs to be put somewhere, whether it’s a charging cord, blue light glasses, AirPods, lip gloss, or the handful of other little things you reach for throughout the workday. A personalized acrylic box is an easy way to keep those everyday essentials within arm’s reach without letting them take over your desk. We love anything that makes a workspace feel a little more organized and a lot less cluttered, especially when it’s pretty enough to leave out.
Magnetic Cord Holder
After you’ve crawled under your desk for the seventh time to retrieve a charging cord, you start to wonder if there’s a better way — and we’re here to tell you there is! We love this magnetic cord holder for keeping chargers right where you need them, even when your devices are unplugged. It’s a tiny desk upgrade, but one that makes your workspace feel instantly more organized (and saves you from yet another trip under the desk).
Nespresso and Milk Frother
Knowing a really good cup of coffee is waiting for you makes starting the workday that much more enjoyable. A Nespresso machine and milk frother make it easy to create something at home that feels a little more special than your everyday coffee order. Whitney’s current recipe: maple syrup (pour with your heart), espresso, cinnamon, a sprinkle of Maldon salt, ice, and frothed almond milk. Consider it our latest reason to skip the coffee shop run.
