We all know summer feels different as an adult, but that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the carefree spirit of the season. From slower mornings and afternoons by the pool to long weekends, these months are filled with nostalgia, vibey playlists, and simple moments that make summer feel like summer. Whenever our team can, we’ve been enjoying summer Fridays—an opportunity to step away from our desks a little earlier and make the most of the longer days.
With the holiday weekend coming up, we’re sharing how we prep for summer hours, what we’re wearing on long weekends, and a few of our favorite ways to embrace summer self-care.
What We Do at Work to Prep for Summer Fridays
Let’s be honest: Our calendars are still full, our inboxes are still packed, and our to-do lists keep growing. The work doesn’t magically slow down just because the weather gets warmer. That doesn’t mean we can’t create boundaries that leave room for summer hours, though. With a little planning and a few intentional habits, it’s possible to wrap up the workweek feeling accomplished while still making time to enjoy the season.
Here are some of our favorite tips.
- Just before Memorial Day, we add a short note to our email signatures letting clients know we’ll be instituting summer office hours. It’s a small touch that sets expectations, reinforces our commitment to client care, and gives everyone peace of mind. This year, here’s what we used:
Summer Office Hours: During the summer months, our team may take a bit longer to respond as we embrace a more flexible seasonal schedule. Please know that we remain fully committed to supporting your brand and digital marketing goals, and we will be in touch within 48 hours during the week. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate adjusted summer schedules while continuing to provide thoughtful, high-quality support.
- We also try to front-load our weeks with meetings and calls, leaving Fridays as open as possible. Whether we’re able to take the entire day off or simply close our laptops a little earlier, having fewer commitments makes it much easier to enjoy the extra daylight.
- To take it a step further, we sometimes block off time on Friday to give ourselves a visual reminder of the way we want our week to unfold. Even if we end up taking a call, protecting that time helps us be intentional about how we spend it.
- Before signing off for the weekend (whenever that may be), we like to jot down our first three priorities for Monday morning. Instead of mentally carrying unfinished work into our time off, we know exactly where to pick back up.
- Finally, we’re big fans of batching our work. By dedicating focused blocks of time to a single client or type of task, we minimize distractions and accomplish more in less time—which means we’re more likely to earn those summer Friday hours.
What We Wear on Summer Fridays
Summer Friday style calls for colorful looks, lightweight fabrics, and breezy silhouettes. Here are some of our favorite pieces for this season.
- Let’s kick off this list with some of our must-have looks for the Fourth of July:
- You can’t go wrong with a stretchy red maxi dress.
- Or, for a looser fit, try this Madewell dress, with its smocked top and embroidered skirt.
- Need a patriotic layer? This knit cardigan was made to be worn during fireworks.
- An easy blue-and-white striped dress works from day to night.
- Spending the day on the water? Grab this cute gingham suit from Hill House Home!
- This blue fisherman bucket bag will carry you into the holiday weekend and through the rest of the summer.
- If you already have your outfit picked out, this red beaded necklace is the ultimate finishing touch.
- Is there a more perfect baseball cap for the holiday weekend? Absolutely not!
- These sparkly jelly sandals are a cute but comfortable option on even the hottest days.
- Whit grabbed two Hill House Home dresses for a belated birthday weekend celebrating with Greer: This rainbow fish halter dress is perfect for daytime fun, while this knit mini dress and these Larroude raffia platform sandals create an effortless look for drinks and dinner.
- Lastly, these turquoise-and-pearl earrings by Jennifer Behr truly elevate any outfit.
What We Do for Summer Self-Care
Summer is a great reminder that taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, self-care looks like a good book by the pool, a morning walk before the heat sets in, or finally saying yes to an afternoon away from your desk. As much as we love productivity, we also know that stepping away to recharge often makes us better leaders and co-workers. Here are a few of the products and rituals helping our team slow down, reset, and enjoy the season a little more.
- Uni gifted us this skincare duo, and it’s a game-changer for soft, moisturized skin: the Plush Marine Shower Oil and 24-Hour Body Serum.
- Greer has only been using these products for about a week, so it’s still too early to speak to long-term results. That said, they’ve both made a great first impression. The formulas feel lightweight (perfect for summer skincare), and she’s noticed her skin looking clearer, brighter, and more refreshed. Check them out: the Intensive AlphaRet Overnight Cream from Skinbetter Science and the HA+ Replenishing Serum from Ourself.
- One of our favorite ways to embrace summer self-care? A few quiet hours by the pool with a great book. Here are some recent favorite reads:
- Pink Sand Summer
- Our Perfect Storm — Whit’s currently reading this one!
- Conform
- The Force of Such Beauty
- Of course, we love a rainy day in front of the television too. We’re currently obsessed with Off Campus, Sweet Magnolias, and Every Year After.
- We still swear by the Ziip Halo Microcurrent Device for a sculpted and lifted face. Slower mornings make it easier to use every day, which is needed for best results!
