Leaves are starting to fall, even though temperatures are still soaring. All things pumpkin spice are back on store shelves, even though the pools are very much still open. We’re officially entering that time of year when our calendars say fall, but the weather says otherwise — which can only mean one thing: The unofficial end of summer is just around the corner.
As the Carlisle & Co. team gets ready for the long weekend ahead, we’re sharing what we’re shopping (hello, Labor Day sales!), how we prepare for a true out-of-office moment, and what we have planned for the holiday weekend.
Consider this our last little summer hurrah…with just a hint of fall mixed in. Welcome to What We…: Long Weekend Edition.
What We Are Shopping
It feels like Labor Day sales start earlier and earlier every year, which makes it a bit overwhelming to figure out what to shop and when, not to mention what’s worth your time (and money). Luckily, we did some of the heavy lifting for you! Here are some favorite finds from our team.
McGee & Co. – Up to 30% off
Whitney is excited for fall decor (and manifesting cooler weather). This trio of wicker bats is the perfect pop on her house’s white brick exterior, while these ceramic ghosts are adorable on the entry way table. She also couldn’t resist this blue-and-white botanical bowl, perfect for keeping fruit on the counter.
Other favorite sale finds include:

- Red, white, and blue melamine tray (paired with this rattan pitcher for end-of-summer fun!)

Tuckernuck – End-of summer sale
So many good finds! If you’ve been around here for a while, you know a matching set is basically our work-from-home uniform. This Tully top, paired with the coordinating Ava shorts, is perfect for those in-between days of September. We’re obsessed with this brown polka dot blouse and matching pants too. Wear both tops with white jeans for more mileage this fall.
A long-sleeve, square-neck mini dress is another no-brainer for this time of year. We also love this blue gingham midi dress. Finally, you can’t go wrong with a white cotton blazer — the perfect layer for air conditioned offices — and suede loafers to elevate any look.
What We Do to Prep for OOO
Before we officially sign off for a long weekend, there are always a few loose ends to tie up. For some of us, that means getting the inbox as close to zero as humanly possible. For others, it’s scheduling content ahead of time, making a Tuesday morning to-do list while everything is still fresh, or giving our desks a quick reset so we’re not returning to last week’s coffee cup and a pile of sticky notes. Whatever the ritual, we’ve learned that a little pre-long weekend prep makes coming back to reality on Tuesday just a little easier.
There’s also something to be said for actually signing off. We love what we do, but long weekends are better when they feel like long weekends. So, once the final emails are sent, away messages are set, and anything time-sensitive is handled, we’re giving ourselves permission to close our laptops and turn our attention elsewhere—whether that’s the pool, the mountains, college football, a backyard grill, or simply a slower few days at home.
We’re leaving a few things behind too. Unread emails that can wait until Tuesday. The pressure to squeeze one more thing into an already-full week. Maybe even a browser tab (or twelve) still open. While the weather may not agree just yet, we’re at least mentally leaving summer behind. Bring on the long weekend, a little breathing room, and all things fall waiting for us on the other side.
What We Planned for Labor Day
Here’s how our team is making the most of the last long weekend of summer:
Greer: Casey is out of town, so I’ve got a full weekend with Lane and Merritt! We’re headed to Disney on Ice, have family coming into town, and are otherwise hoping to squeeze in plenty of pool time and ice cream.
And, of course, I’ll make time for a little post-bedtime online shopping for me once everyone is tucked in. I’m deep in preparation for Merritt’s first birthday (a pastel unicorn pool party) so I’m using the weekend sales as an excuse to start coordinating everyone’s party attire! I’m looking at this Beach Riot color-block bikini (top and bottom) for me, the Rufflebutts swim trunks in Blue Breeze Bay and a white rash guard (monogrammed, of course) for Lane, and the Rufflebutts pink seersucker swimsuit with pom-pom unicorn hair clips for the birthday girl.
Cassie: After a big first week back at school for my kids, we’re ready for a fun long weekend! We’ll be heading to a few barbecues and cheering from the sidelines at lots of sporting events.
Whit: I’m planning to squeeze every last bit out of the long weekend: a trip to the farmers market, plenty of pool time before it closes for the season, grilling with friends, and — finally! — football is back (Boomer Sooner!). I’m also fully embracing the start of fall decorating in the new house. The spooky stuff has to wait until October 1st, but my beloved MacKenzie-Childs pumpkins? They’re coming out now, and I’m very excited to find a spot for all of them.
Juliet: My weekend plans are simple: staying cool by the pool and firing up the grill.
Emma: I’ll be in Cashiers, NC with my family, soaking up the cooler mountain air and hopefully squeezing in a hike or two!
