Careers aren’t built in a straight line. They’re shaped through conversations, lessons, pivots, and the little rituals that keep us grounded along the way. In our world, growth often looks like shared insights, honest reflections, and the kind of wisdom you only gain by doing the work day in and day out.
For today’s What We…: Career Edition, let’s dive into what we share during Morning Chats with Carlisle, what we want for our dream workspace, and what we would tell our younger selves.
What We Share During Morning Chats with Carlisle
Have you tuned in for Morning Chats with Carlisle on Instagram? If not, you’re missing out! Team members take turns hopping onto our Stories to share current or upcoming projects, bouts of inspiration, and more. Lately, we’ve shared some pieces of advice that are worth repeating here.
A Revised Take on Resolutions
It’s easy for New Year’s resolutions to lose their momentum by February, especially when they’re built around big, year-long transformations. Instead of putting pressure on ourselves to sustain one sweeping change for 12 months, what if we gave ourselves permission to reset at the start of each month? Focusing on bite-sized, meaningful objectives can make growth feel more doable. Greer recently shared that she set a simple intention to read more, and she accomplished it in January — proof that small, focused goals can create real momentum!
A Productivity Hack
It’s tempting to jot things down on a to-do list with the intention of getting to them later. But instead of pausing just to write it down, consider whether you can spend a few minutes doing it now. Taking immediate action often saves time in the long run and clears that task from your mental space — a true win-win that lightens both your schedule and your mind.
What We Want for Our Dream Workspace
We’re all about multitasking, and if we can sneak in a walk while we answer e-mails, we’re all in! This electric standing desk and under-the-desk walking pad is the perfect combination. It’s small enough to fit in nearly any space, and the walking pad can easily move around depending on where you want to work that day. If you need to sit for a bit, we can’t recommend this ergonomic-but-still-aesthetically-pleasing chair enough.
Lately, our team has been chatting about taking handwritten notes during calls. For whatever reason, most of us are inclined to grab a pen and paper instead of typing our notes. We love a planner that doubles as a notebook, and this one fits the bill. If you prefer a separate notebook, you can’t beat the look of this top spiral notebook from Rifle Paper Co. — perfect for displaying on your desk. Check out our full list for more of our favorite planners!
Speaking of desk styling, we love a minimal but impactful desktop. Here are our must-haves:
- Pop a favorite photo into this beautiful wicker weave frame.
- This magnetic cord holder is a game-changer — you’ll never have to awkwardly reach for your computer charger again! It comes with two magnetic clips, making it perfect for securing an easy-to-access phone charger too.
- This slate blue scallop desk calendar feels very on brand for Carlisle & Co.
- Add a favorite candle to set the perfect work-from-home vibe.
- It’s no secret that we all love a cube timer to help us focus and batch our projects!
What We Would Tell Our Younger Selves
It only seemed fitting to close this blog post with the career advice we’d give to our younger selves. You don’t want to miss these gems!
Greer: Have confidence right out of the gate. Not an inflated sense of expertise, and still with real curiosity and openness to learn from others, but a deeper confidence in myself and fewer self-limiting beliefs about what I was capable of.
Cassie: Say yes to new opportunities, even if it feels scary or you don’t feel ready. Believe in yourself enough to figure it out.
Whitney: You don’t have to climb the corporate ladder to build a meaningful career. I never felt called to that path, and once I stopped thinking I should, I found work that truly lights me up: writing, designing, strategizing, creating. I built a career around what energizes me instead of what looks impressive on paper.
Also, never stop learning. Every year, I grow in new ways, and that’s what keeps my work exciting. Curiosity will take you far!
Heather: Keep going with the out-of-the-box ideas instead of being scared they’re too wild. It’s part of what makes you different!
Juliet: No one has it fully figured out, even if it looks that way. The people who grow the fastest just start sooner and learn as they go.
Emma: I once heard someone say “Is there a need you can passionately meet with your skills, and is there an opportunity to do so? That’s a good career!” It helped me realize that where passion, skill, and opportunity intersect is where you find meaningful and fulfilling work!
