Every year, we see the same cycle when it comes to digital marketing analytics: Everyone tends to begin the new year full of ambition and energy, but as soon as summer rolls around and planners fill up, engagement and sales decrease. The drop can be discouraging to business owners and digital marketers alike, resulting in overall less productivity (20 percent less productivity, to be exact!). This lull is known as the summer marketing slump – and if you experience it this season, you’re not alone. Time and time again, summer has proven to be the slowest social media season (lucky us!).

With that thought in mind, we want to offer you four tips to help you beat the summer marketing slump and rise to the top again.

1. Stay on trend.

Now more than ever before, it’s important to stay on top of social media trends. For instance, this year, video content has proven to be essential, so make an effort to increase the number of Instagram Reels and TikToks that you post each week. Take advantage of popular features like Instagram Stories, Instagram and Facebook Lives, YouTube Shorts, and more. Research what’s working for others in your industry and join in on those trends while putting your own unique spin on it!

2. Increase your engagement.

You want to be top-of-mind for your audience this summer. Don’t use the slow season as an excuse to be less active. If you do, you’ll fall behind in the algorithm – just in time for people to pick their phones back up in the fall! Spend more time than you normally would engaging with your followers. You can join in on conversations, like and comment on posts, and repost relevant content.

3. Streamline your SEO routine.

A great way to beat the summer marketing slump is to let SEO do the work for you. Take some time to create a carefully-crafted plan in order to boost your traffic. Do some keyword research and then publish weekly or biweekly blog posts. You can update your website with new landing pages (using those keywords, of course!) and seek out worthwhile backlinks too . Then, while you relax poolside, watch more and more people reach your site!

4. Stick to a schedule.

With additional social events stacked on top of your everyday workload, it’s no surprise that the summer can leave you feeling disheveled and overwhelmed. Still, it’s important to stay organized when it comes to your digital marketing efforts. We love scheduling platforms like Sendible to plan our future posts, but programs as simple as Google Sheets can also be an excellent way to stay on track.
